Portrait, Seascapes, Flowers - oil paintings by Paul Mutch.
Welcome to my site.
I draw and paint to create representations of what I see and feel. Depth of emotion or feeling is important to me, and I try to depict this in my work.
Firstly I make a pencil sketch of my planned painting on canvas board. When I am happy with this, I generally paint on a thin coat of white mixing paint and from there I work in colour. By using oil paint, I can come back to a painting as it develops over a couple of weeks; adding more detail and making changes as I want to. I enjoy experimenting with colour and in particular using colour which is not traditionally associated with a particular subject matter.
I was brought up in Scotland and part of my bloodline comes from a fishing background. I enjoy being near the sea, and would like to create many more representations of the Scottish coastline.
With regards to portrait, I like to paint respectful, easily recognisable representations of people.
In many ways flowers are similar to portrait as, like faces we use the view we see to identify the subject.
I have no formal art education, and am self-taught.
Thank-you for visiting.
